Now show up to the service department and proclaim that.
Then actually show them what you're talking about.

Wow, next thing you know, you'll descend deeper into madness and expose your fasteners!

It's.... actually.....
I thought it'd BE smaller. I was hoping the knob was threaded on the bottom so I could add a shorter knob to lessen the throws a bit. No such luck. Threaded on the top. Long ass shaft like a truck.

Measure the unthreaded lower part of the rod, if it is smaller in Dia. as it appears to be than the threaded area the original shifter knob will be trickier to reuse. I would recommend a replacement knob with an inner thread dia. slightly smaller than the unthreaded section. Cut the rod and run the correct size and thread die down it for new threads. Put on a jam nut install the replacement knob and enjoy the shorter throw. If you have to have the O. E. knob, you, from the looks of it will need an inner and outer threaded sleeve. The alternative is to remove the rod, Section it and reweld it. you retain the stock threads this way. Make sure however if you do this that the end result isn't "Knuckles in the ashtray" on the third and fifth gear change. The rod could at welding time could be tilted rearward on a butt type weld or the cut top piece could be "Sistered up" without sectioning directly behind the lower piece with overlap of at least 1 inch and a high quality weld. I hope this has opened up some possibilities in the quest for the much fabled "MR-2 shifter throw"

Sounds like too much of a pain. Will keep it stock. It's only a Camry. :D
